Is the suggested dealers price fair when buying a car from a dealership?

I've never bought a car from a dealership before. For a 2003 Ford Focus, Mach special, moon roof, automatic transmission, and only 40,000 miles they want $7900.00. That's the Bluebooks suggested.. What would you pay? AND! What exactly is a bank finance charge and how much does that run?|||To determine if the price is reasonable do your research with the online price guides.

There are a lot of them out there.

I don't know what this car is worth but I can offer this advice. NEVER pay Blue Book for a car. Always negotiate the price lower than the book value. Blue Book Value is the maximum price. You don't ever want to pay maximum price, you want the car at the lowest possible price, not the highest.

Bank Finance charges are the interest you pay on the loan.|||If you want facts, I've got them.

Number one, the value of a car is not determined by any guide book. The car's value is determined by the buyer. Just today, I took my sister 93 miles to a used car dealer and let her pay over Kelly Blue Book Retail for a car. AND, I am a car dealer with over two decades experience. AND, she got a really good buy. I've seen lots of cars that were no where near the value of the car she bought that sold for way more. I did not have any car in inventory that represented as good a value. I know the selling dealer made a profit, but that's what retail is all about. We negotiated DOWN to Kelly retail!

The car was exceptional, and the value was good in today's market. Edmunds, Kelly, and all those other guys are PUBLISHERS. They make their living convincing the public that they know what they are doing. They don't know sh*t!

The "Blue Book Suggested" is no more than that. LOOK at the car. Have a mechanic inspect it. Put some effort in to your decision. You won't find any person in Yahoo Answers who will drive the car and inspect it. It's been USED. Determine if that use was benign or abusive or neglectful. Take some responsibility for your decision. Pay Kelly retail ONLY if the car is PERFECT. If it is an ordinary car, pay way less.|||That's very high, but if it's an SVT model, that may be right.

I agree with Dave Ramsey. Don't borrow money for a car; live within your means.

Also, Blue book is usually high in my view. Compare it to KBB and NADA. You be the judge.|||I think Edmunds gives you the true value of the car. So if you buy a car at that price, it's worth it.|||Determine wholesale value and negotiate from there. Don't EVER finance a car, always pay cash.

Pay cash or do not buy.

In Massachusetts do you have to pay for excise tax on a leased car? and is there a tax break on luxury cars?

How is the excise amount determined, I understand it is $25 per $1000, but is based on the bluebook value of the car or on how much you owe?|||It is determined on blue book value of the vehicle. If you wholly own your car you still have to pay excise tax. After all, just because you finished paying for it does not mean that it no longer uses town roads.

I doubt there is a tax break on luxury cars. It is like property taxes on a house. You are assessed according to the value. To give you a break constitues an unfair practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

How Much Can I Sell This For ?

I own a 1999 Ford Escort with 150,000 miles. I just put a brand new engine in it worth $3,000. The Car is in absolute perfect condition now that i fixed the engine problem. The BlueBook value is around $3,400 could I get any more with the new engine?|||Very unlikely as it is high mileage and most that age will have had things replaced.

If you had a 159K engine it woudl not be worth the book price, but a lot less. those values are for good condition examples, which yours might be.

It is old and that is the real thing. Why woudl anyone pay much for that when they can get something newer and younger (fewer miles) for the same money. Might have been a questionable moe to put in the new engine. Ask Click and Clack on Car talk,|||If you have a new engine, then there wouldn't be any miles, other than the fact

that the original vehicle miles were 150,000 before you replaced the engine.

Is that correct? In which case you might do better in the bluebook value.

You might get some more $ based on whether it's a rebuilt/reconditioned engine

or as you stated, brand new.

Norinco EM-321 ".22 Pump Rifle" Parts Q? and Bluebook?

Hello,

I've seen this 321 on the Exempt clause in the old ban cause its a "Norinco". What is the Bluebook Value as I can't seem to find a Local Store that Has the Bluebook for that Style rifle? Has anyone seen any Parts Wanted or For Sale for the EM-321? [Ive looked for almost a Year and havent seen this Gun on any online auctions] The reason why Im curious about this one is the few I did see, the Customer(s) seemed Desperate for the Parts %26amp; They seem to be a Rarity + Expensive as Hell.

Thanks! ANY other Gun or Weapon I havent 1 problem, why this one, No Idea !

It's a Norinco, so it ain't worth much.|||In Blue Book of Values, 29 edition, under Norinco - rifles .22, the Model EM-321 rifle listed value at 100 % $135. I find this rifle to be well worth more than listed as gun values have made a considerable jump this past year. Also rifle is identical to the Browning patent trombone, made in Germany and is very much built as well. I feel as a collector this gun will increase in value along with its rarity. Was imported by China Sports Inc, located in Ontario, Ca in early 90's. Check their for parts or look for trombone parts. Roadee

How much should I pay for a 1997 Toyota Corolla?

They are asking for 2200 which seems reasonable because the inspection showed that the only thing wrongith it is the headlight adjustment.but it has 201000 something miles on it.My question is..

How much longer can i predict this car to run for?

and how much should i pay for it?

(bluebook price is 2095)|||The Blue book value is always a generalization. Value of any vehicle is subjective.

And any owner may ask and get whatever they wish for a vehicle.

Case in point:

The Blue book value on my 1986 Corolla is very low, but it has barely turned over 100,000 miles. It is a bit rusty around the fenders, but overall is the most dependable car I've ever owned. (I'm the third owner, my father was the second, and he took it to be serviced for the first owner.)

My car is never going to look new again, but she sure has alot of poop for and old girl.

I certainly hope to keep her for another 5 years, but I don't think that we'll ever see 200,00 miles.

It would be nice though!|||pay what you want to pay really first check it out by typing how to check a used car follow that list of thing s to look for when buying a used car and most of time you wil not get a lemon as for miles depends on shape its in thus the reason why you check it but most cars you can drive into the 400,000 range it they are cared for right way why you need to check for problem before buying any used car and decide and no one pays blue book price so id say about 1800 a good starting price|||Two yrs ago I bought a 1995 Toyota Corolla for around the same price. Toyota's are great, reliable cars that last a long time as long as you take care of it. Mine has 204,000 miles on it, and my moms (also a '95) has well over 220,000. I would try and negotiate to 2000, because of the miles it already has. I'm far from a mechanic, but mine has been reliable. Toyotas do seem to have issues with wheel bearings needing replaced, but it isn't expensive to fix (about 150), which is something I would ask them about if they'd had to replace. Hope I helped!|||That toyota will last for another 2 to 3 years but just make sure you do regular maintenance and before you buy take it to a trusted mechanic so he can check it over

Good luck.|||The miles are too high. Kelly Blue Books says $1,200 retail. I would not buy it. It is about to go. Even if it has not been driven hard, a car with that many miles will start giving you one problem after another very soon.

specifically, fords, toyotas, hondas are 1999-20006 are 1000. over blus book in some dealerships in Oregon and Arizona|||Thousands of SUV's were traded in for the cash for clunkers program.

Double check to see if "Obama" "McCain" would need to be followed by et. al. I believe you are correct. MY Blue Book says you are correct. I have a salvaged vehicle is it wise to keep collision insurance?

according to most insurance agencies if your vehicle is in an accident it is valued by kelly bluebook. a salvaged vehicle has no value according to kelly (and others). If that is the case if my car gets totalled would there be any payoff ? Im wondering if I should pay an extra 600 a year for collision if it is not going to do me any good. Thanks in advance|||If the vehicle has been properly restored, gone through body integrity check, and safety check, it is worth the same as it was before the accident, possibly more with new paint, etc. Keep collision on it, unless it has lower value because of age. In other words, if it is a 1985 K-Car, no collision, if it is a 2001 Corvette, keep collision.|||It depends on what the car is worth, how old the car is, and the car's condition. If the car is only worth $1000 then it's not worth the $600 a year for collision. You are better of with just liability. A salvaged vehicle is usually not street driveable.|||Does it now have a salvage title? Is it the same insurance company that totalled the vehicle that is now insuring it with collision coverage? If it is that insurance company are robbing you blind.

They probably wont give you one penny if you crash it up, its hard to believe an insurance company is willing to even sell you collision coverage on that car, knowing they will never pay out one red cent of that coverage.|||no|||It's still going to cost to have the vehicle repaired if you have a crash. Lets say if you rear ended someone, If you don't carry full coverage then they wont repair your car. You cant base it on total value for a fender bender. The insurance company will pay you full book value for a total loss if you have full coverage or they wouldn't insure your vehicle in the first place. Call and talk to them about it.|||Ask your insurance company - some will and some won't. It depends on how well it was restored and whether or not it passes inspection by the insurance company. Usually the same insurance company that paid off on it won't insure it again though.

What is the best swap/sell/trade options for changing automobiles?

Currently drive a 2000 Buick Lesabre; need something that's smaller/tighter/fuel efficiant/fun. I still owe on the Buick (never had a car loan before this) a little more than it's worth through BlueBook;|||The best option in your situation is to sell your car through your local newspaper or through an online serviced such as http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.h鈥?/a> to get the most money for your car's retail value. Once that is done, pay the remaining balance of the loan off, if you can afford to do so.

Anytime that you trade a car into the dealer, you won't get the best price for your car. You will usually get a better deal selling it on your own, that is if you have the time to do that.

Of course, in your situation, therein lies a problem that most people face. Because you owe more then what the car's retail value is, you are considered to be "upside down" on your payments.

Most people are upside down on vehicle loans, so when they go to sell or trade the car in, they still owe money on the car loan. Even if you sell you car outright to someone, you still have to come up with the extra money that you still owe. Since some people can't afford to pay the difference, so most will trade in the car for a new one and then they will apply the negative equity of the old car loan to the new car loan. So now they have a new car, but again, they will owe more then what the car's retail value is.

As an example, according to Kelly Blue Book, your car value is anywhere from $4,330.00 to $5,390.00 if you sold it on your own. If you owed say $7,390.00 on it and sold it for $5,390.00, then you would still owe $2,000.00. The trade in value for your car would be $3,060.00-$4,175.00. So as you can see, you get less wiht a trade in and you would owe more to the lender. Of course, these are rough estimates as I don't know where you live and the mileage and condition of your car. It just gives you an idea.

Here in VA, the dealers I have visited will use either the Kelly Blue Book, http://www.kbb.com or the National Automobile Dealer's Association used car guidebook, http://www.nada.com/

My car is bluebook 21K, and I owe 19K. My car note is almost $600. How do you suggest I get from under it? You can then decide if you want to sell it for that, or if you want to modify the price you are asking.

KBB is only a guide, and it is usually high. There is a saying in the auto business that Mr Book has never written a check for a car. There is also the fact that most people do not rate their vehicle conditions correctly, what you may consider to be a "clean" car a dealer may rate as average or even rough.

Without knowing the information about the vehicle, it is not possible to give you an idea about the actual value.|||So why did you buy it? I mean...the note per month shouldn't be a surprise as it was written on the contract you signed.

How much can i get for a 2005 ford taurus in fair condition?

i have a 2005 ford taurus i'm selling, only 28000 miles. it's in "fair" condition, with a smashed headlight and a passenger mirror that's just hanging there, but supposedly the bluebook value is around $10,000 still. i asked for that amount at a few used car dealers and none were willing, for that much. i need to get rid of the car cause i'm going overseas (permanently) soon, but i don't want to get ripped off and sell it for less than its true worth. any opinions?|||If getting the headlight fixed for even a couple hundred dollars do it.

You are far more likely to get your money back and then some.

Also invest some "sweat equity" or about $100 into a detail job on the interior and exterior.

True a dealer wont give you 10K for your vehicle but depending on the model level, mechanical condition, and the buyer in front of you, there may be a chance of getting close.

Ask 10500 OBO.

That way when someone wants to bring you down on your price, you can have a nice clean car in front of you and come down 500 without hesitation.

But consider coming down a little more if you have a buyer that's really ready to buy.

Challenge them. If they offer 9500, ask them if they are prepared to buy today.

If they say were going to go home and think about it, politely ask them why. Feel out your customer without being too intrusive.

If they ask for your best price, say it's on the window but you will entertain any reasonable counter offer.|||Problem is what are you calling the bluebook value? You need to go instead by trade in value.. for the damage it's only gonna fetch $8,000 on trade.... basically taking it to a body shop to repair a few things (such as the mirror, and get a aftermarket headlight) can send the value up over $1000 or more....

Basically it all depends upon shape.. and used car dealers ain't dumb.. they want to fast turn around and they will take the cost out of what they offer to the seller to turn a profit to sell it to a buyer..

You can take a chance on a private party sell... but most buying a car in this shape private party are just like the used car dealers... buy low sell high...

Go to a body shop for an estimate first.. see if the repairs needed will actually net you more from a used car lot due to the shape of the car.. or if it's better to cut your losses...|||According to other auto sellers, you could sell your car from a price range from about 16,000 to a good for some fixtures such as the headlight 20,000.|||A dealer will probably give you much less for it then a private buyer. Dealers have to put some money into it and get it ready for resale and make a profit. Look in the local paper and see what the make and model is really going for, then set your price and advertise accordingly.

power windows manual seats v8|||well you can check www.nada.com type it in your web search box, click on the consumers section, and then go from there, this is a guide, you can also check craigs list and see what they are selling for, you may find some on auto trader, to try to get an idea, but rough guess somewhere between 1500 to 2 grand the cleaner and nicer it looks, the easier it is to sell good luck

Is kelley bluebook always right about how much to pay for a car?

I have found a 1990 300E Mercedes Benz in prefect condition on the inside and out. The only thing is that it's from a dealer and they have no service records and they are asking a 2000 more than the kelley bluebook but the only reason it doesn't kelley bluebook for more is becaus there are no service records on it. So i am just wondering if 3500 sounds to high for a 1990 300E Mercedes with only 110,000mlies on it and it's in perfect condition?|||KBB can be way off, although they're not often. They sometimes miss the mark on cars older than 20 year, and this one is that. They are often off on high-value cars, and this one is nearly that.

No records on a Mercedes that's "in perfect condition ... inside and out" seems suspicious. Get the Car Fax and see if the car has a Salvage title, or has been totaled and repaired. The mileage is low enough that the car might have sat in storage for years. That's not good -- seals dry out when not used and rubber continues to degrade. If the car was stored but has since been fully refurbished, that's not necessarily a problem. If it has JUST been dug out of storage and is being offered to you without documentation because it's been so long the owners have lost the service records, that's bad.

Check the insulation on the spark plug wires: is it hard, brittle, and cracked? That's a good sign the car has recently been pulled from storage. If they won't let you test drive the car, walk away.

If you test it and like everything -- brakes, steering, high speed handling, etc., spend the money to have a certified Mercedes mechanic (not where you're going to buy the car) do a Pre Purchase Inspection.|||Alright, it's a 20 year old car with 110k miles on the clock. It's not in perfect condition, no matter how much the dealer cleaned it up. No car that has more than 5k on the clock is in excellent/perfect condition.

The fact that the dealer is asking $2k above KBB is because they're looking to make a profit on each car they sell. I'd be surprised if you could knock them down very much.

As far buying the car? Nah, no records at all, no carfax, not a good idea. If you really want it, have a mechanic look at it, preferably a mechanic who works on porches, merc's, and BMWs.|||The only thing for sure about Kelley Blue-book prices is that this is not the price for which it will sell!

A lot of cars of this class were wiped out with the cash for clunkers last year and because the Benz is in the class of "Future Classics's" it demands a higher price. It is only five to ten years away from being desirable show material.

So I don't think the 3500 is too high if you think highly of a Benz. Now if you just want cheap wheels, don't look at this class of car. While the price is right for a daily used driver, it just is not the type.|||The blue book value is an average of what people have paid for a car of that make, model and condition. I think they also list different prices for trade-in value and retail value, so make sure you are looking at the right one. You might be able to talk the seller down or find another Mercedes of similar age and condition.|||KBB is correct, 3500 is a little too high for a car that will break down the road a lot. I had a Mercedes, and YES! it broke down a lot so I just got rid of it. However, to answer your question about the KBB yes, they are about 95% accurate.

don'tont forget, Dealers tend to mark up there prices to make a few extra bucks you know. so try to knock off a Hundredered off the price.|||KBB is an average price.. so cars can be higher or lower..

I would skeptical of a Benz with no maintenance records...Benz's are like pretty women.. high maintenance...

It's also 20 years old, parts are expensive, sometimes hard to find, and these cars tend to break down... i would pass on this...|||it is an estimate.. trust NADA.COM. it is up to date info about how much a specific car has been selling for in your area over the past month. its much better then KBB.COM because it goes by area code and actual dealer info.

2001 BMW z3 for 13,000$ fair? Bluebook says 9900$!?

I have my heart set on getting a BMW z3 (not z4)- and found a used one at a reputable dealer with 40,000 miles on it (LOW) (2001 z3 3.0) listed at 13,000$- this seems to be the price most similar z3's are listed as.

However, bluebook says considering all the details of the car (age, condition, mileage, even the wheels) that the retail price should be about 9900$. In the 4 months of been looking for a z3, they all seem to be listed 30-40% higher than their supposed bluebook value, and the dealerships are truly not interested in getting too far below their asking price.

It's been explained to me that certain cars (like z3, Honda Del Sol, Mazda Miada) become discontinued, and therefore the true value is always above the supposed true market value of bluebook.

Is this BS????

I'm planning a test drive of this car in a couple days, and I'm fine paying whats fair for the car- if that is a fair price.

The car is automatic, V6, 3.0, charcoal, black leather interior, sports package, good-perfect condition, clean title, good history, never sat for years- just a weekend driver based on the detailed carfax I've seen.|||a fair price is how much you like the car, if you think you can get a better z3 for less money and is not in a rush then maybe you should wait, then again that z3 might be in much better condition then the next z3 that you will find.|||Compare prices at edmunds.com and nadaguides.com both will give you wholesale, trade in, and the average retail price. I always start from the low end. Z3's have come down in price in the last year. Checkout z3ers.com there is a whole section on buying a used Z3. Good Luck!

|||If you really like the car get it. The kbb is just a guide, and prices can vary by region and demand. A Z3 like that is going to be hard to find with that low mileage that is the reason for the price, and it is very well optioned. If you need more prove, look at the z3's listed in your region on autotrader, and compare prices, mileage, color, options etc to find the right car for you.

Bluebook value for my car is lower than what my insurance company says it is?

I paid 12,000 for my '07 Saturn Ion. Bluebook value is 11,500. I didnt give my insurance company the vin number at first and my insurance for full coverage was $95 with a $500 deduc. Later after they got the vin they say its worth 16,000! and now my insurance is $107 with a $1200 deduc. Can they do this? my car is in no way shape or form worth 16,000....|||Of course they can do "this". If you don't like it, then you can do this: You can cancel your policy and find another insurer|||You paid more than the car was worth, and since then it will have depreciated in value, so you surely weren't expecting to get even $11500 were you?

Never accept an insurer's first offer anyway, it's always on the conservative side as they have to protect their own interests. I've had a few claims where I've refused fourth or fifth offers.

Argue your case for the value of your car in it's pre-accident condition. Send the insurer copies of sales adverts for the same make, model and year. Do not expect an average of those prices though as they'll argue that the true price is always lower after negotiating with the salesperson. If your car had a full tank of gas and you have a receipt to prove it, then claim for that as well as it's a significant value these days.

Good luck, and don't give in easily.|||Of course they can. They can raise your rates for a host of reasons at any time. Plus, they didn't have all of the information on the car (VIN #) when you bought your policy. If the rate you have now is unacceptable, you should shop around for a one.

Is your car financed, or did you pay cash for it? If it is financed, you may be in violation of the terms of the loan by having such a high deductible. When I bought my truck last year, I financed it through Bank of America. I read in the loan agreement that my insurance deductible could be no more than $500. You need to find your loan agreement, and read the terms.|||so you will get that much if the car is totaled! yes they certainly can do that; they will charge for the amount of coverage they are offering. ($16,000) The VIN tells them what model it is, and if you can prove that it is not worth $16k, and you ask for stated value not book, you may be able to get it lowered-if not, another insurance company will!|||Insurance Companies do not decide what the Bluebook value of a car is, Bluebook publication does.

Find out for yourself, go to www.kbb.com. complete the questions, (including the correct VIN number)

Print the results, and send it to your insurance company.

What is the usual down payment on a 2000-2004 used mustang coupe?

If you are a first time buyer then you are looking at a high interest loan as well as a larger down payment.

I sold my 5 year old car in 2006. How do I report this to the IRS?

I sold it for $3500, but kelly bluebook said it was worth $6400. It was paid off. Do I report this as "other income" on line 21? Report it in a schedule d? Is it taxable at all since I sold it for less than it was worth? How does this work?|||If you made a profit selling it (ie - paying $1000 for it and selling it for $3500, you then earned an income of $2500) Profit = Income, and only income is taxable. Its rare that the sale of a car, you purchased, will result in a profit, considering how car depreciate in value.|||this answer is wrong....you did not earn this money, you sold something....if you put the money in the bank next year, you will have to report it as interest....unless you are a dealer, you do not report income from the sale of personal items.

i live in indiana, im almost 16 and my aunt wants to get rid of her 00 grand am. ive got no money but i was wondering if she gave it to me would she qualify for a tax deduction? if so how much? bluebook value or some set price?|||No, you only get a tax deduction if it is donated to a organization.

Sorry to break the bad news,

You have to donate your car to a IRS recognized 501(c)(3) charity.

Even at that, if you designate it (like to your aunt, or yourself) it is not deductible.

The amount you can claim is the amount the charity sells it for. They send you a letter. They low ball you so they can turn around and make a much larger profit. Either counteroffer what you know it is worth, or, sell it outright yourself. If you want a gun appraised, go to a gun show or local gun dealer. A pawn shop MAY give you a low appraisal if they think there's any chance at all you may sell it to them. I would stick with a gun shop or check prices online.

%26lt;ADDED%26gt;

If you think NO ONE goes by book price, talk to your insurance agent when you add a rider onto your homeowner policy for additional coverage on guns. Most policies will only cover $1000 in guns, some more, some less. You have to pay extra to cover any higher amount of guns you own. They do go by book price. You can't tell your insurance agent you want to insure a $100 single shot shotgun for $500 and expect them to pay the $500 if it's stolen, lost in a fire, etc. unless they have an appraisal showing that the value is actually $500, even if you pay for a rider to insure it at $500.

Take pictures of guns you own, keep a record of serial numbers, and be realistic in the amount you insure them for.

Also, look at a gun show when dealers or individuals offer you a price on your gun. Most have a blue book or gun traders guide there and they will offer you less for your gun than book price so they have a profit margin. Book prices are there to give you an approximate price for your particular gun in the percentage of condition it is in.

I've been going to gun shows and dealers for over 30 years. The prices they ask for a gun and the prices they offer you are based on book price and local supply and demand.

If a gun is a slow mover in your area, you should expect to get lower than book price or pay less if you're buying. If it's a desirable gun in your area or it's a collectable gun, expect to pay more for it or get more if you're selling than what book price shows.

Keep in mind, a lot of online prices are asking prices. Unless you check completed auctions or sales, a lot of guns are relisted and sold at a lower price, or not sold at all.|||The Blue Book is standard for all gun sales used. Bferg is correct in every word. The value of the gun and the selling cost of the gun may differ, but the selling cost is always obtained by a professional with the book value. If you dont think you can sell the gun for the price you find in the book, then maybe your not being honest with yourself on the condition of the gun ! Most people are not, and they find the gun more value to themselves than to the market !|||No matter what anyone says, books don't work. If you were to list your weapon by its book price, you'll still have it in three years. NO ONE goes by book value!

If you want good estimates, go to gunbroker.com and look your particular weapon up and see what prices are actually being paid. It's as close to a real, working bluebook as you'll find.|||My insurance agency told me that the best way to evaluate it's worth is to have a pawn shop appraise it.

As bferg says though, you should make sure they know at the beginning that you are not interested in selling or pawning it or they will often give you a low price.

Stick to the cleaner shops in the not so bad neighborhoods though.

Building trust would be to actually trust him. Let go of your insecurities and believe that he cares for you enough that he wouldn't hurt you. If that is not something you can do with him, you shouldn't be with him. That's it. It's honestly that simple. If you feel the need to check up on him constantly and search through his personal items, your relationship is doomed because you refuse to allow trust to develop. Trust isn't knowing for a fact with physical proof that he won't cheat. Trust is knowing in your heart that despite what anyone may say or do, he loves you and you don't have to worry. So either choose to trust or don't waste time with him. And remember that the more you snoop and invade his privacy, the less likely it will be that he will ever trust you and more likely it will be that he will hide more from you.|||Whats bluebook - and how does this relate to marriage and divorce?|||Dito with the Unicorn!

Is there any way to get our of a car loan when you owe more than its worth?

I recently just became a single mom. I have a truck payment of 450$ that I can no longer afford. The truck is in my name and I don't have any extra cash to pay off the loan.I have 5 years left of payments also and owe 20,000 when the bluebook says its worth 12,000?? trading it in is also not an option unless I get 20,000 which is not gonna happen. does anyone have any helpful advice?|||You could try to refinance to get your payments down.

You are not going to be able to eliminate the overall amount you owe, but if you can get a financial institution to extend the period of time you need to pay it back, then your monthly payments will be cheaper.

For example, you owe for 60 months. Try to see if someone will refinance the amount for 72 or 84 months. It could be difficult because you say you have 8,000 negative equity, but it is worth a try. It is certainly better than getting the car repossessed.

I would start with a credit union.|||You are probably better off selling the car yourself than trading it in at the dealership. You won't be able to get the price quoted on KBB either because their quoted price is way higher than what you will actually get from the dealers.|||Sell it outright on your own.|||you could sell it outright to a private party, and then what i would do is, if you are seriously that strapped for money, you would have to take out a personal loan for the remainder of the balance.

For example: you owe 20K. You sell it for 17K. Get a personal Loan for 3K and your payments are a lot lower!|||When you borrow money, you have to pay it back. The value of the truck has nothing to do with it. What's important is that those people who handed over their money need it back.

If you're simply not going to pay for it, the bank will appreciate you just telling them that and giving them the truck. They will be hurt financially, and your credit will be ruined, but if you CAN NOT pay then they will be forced to allow you to financially hurt them.

If you can't afford what you've already got, I don't think trading it in is going to help.|||Hello,

The ones with front wheel drive %26amp; a V6 are really bad, you have to unbolt the engine from the mounts just to change the spark plugs. I'd be at least very cautious. Maybe check Edmonds, or Kelly and see what the rating is as a used car.|||Regardless of age, 160,000 is pushing it for a Pontiac. There probably isn't alot of life left in it.|||Pontiacs are very durable. But 160K miles is a test.

Can you register a vehicle with a branded title?

My sister is interested in buying a dodge stratus from a junk yard but the title is branded as "theft recovery." I know in some states they can refuse to issue you a title to be able to register it and get insurance. The kelly bluebook value of the car (clean title) is like $6,000 in good condition but the guy only wants $3,000. Something smells fishy to me! Does anybody know if the car is ok to buy and register in michigan or is this guy a jerk?|||Theft recovery means that the car was stolen and recovered. You have no way of knowing what happened to it after it was stolen and before they recovered it. Could have been in an accident or anything. Definitely get a mechanic to examine it thoroughly.|||Yes, you can register it, but buyer beware. It could have been completely stripped then pieced back together for all you know.

How much do you think I can get from my Chev Cavalier 2003?

I have a 2003 Cavalier with 89,000 miles on it. The bluebook says $5400 in "good" condition, So I was wondering what you would pay for it.

What's the best way to get rid of a car when you owe more than it's worth?

I owe $8400, Bluebook values it at around $6000. The payments are too high and I want to know the best way to get rid of it.|||Find a reasonable New Car with lots of rebate. The rebate will help absorb the $2400 you are upside down.|||trade it in on something cheaper, or sell it privately|||trade in, either way you lost a lot.|||If you trade it in, you will get a value that is less than you owe. The difference between that value and your balance is applied to your new car price. Bad Idea.

Go to the city and find a man named Gweedo and he will tell you what to do. Probably something like: park the car in a particular alley, leave a key in it. Report it stolen the next day.

Option 1 you are out the balance plus the price of a new car.

option 2 you are only out the balance.|||"I believe that sometimes you got to wreck the truck to get the insurance money to make the truck payment."|||If you sell it you will have to come up with the $2400 cash difference. You cannot roll that into a new car loan any more.

Or you find a better paying job.

Truck payment is too high since wife stopped working what should i do?

i have $12,000 left on a 06 toyota tacoma access cab sr5 in good condition (some scratches and small dents) payments are 464 a month. thinking about possibly selling? or trading for a small family suv. how should i go about doing this? kelly bluebook is $15,000. my credit is kinda poor as well my parents helped me out with the truck they arent living in the same state anymore...any suggestions?|||you could always go to the bank and try to refinance it for lower payments. you will end up paying a little more in interest in the long run, but it can help you out a lot now. good luck|||Well you could always tell your wife to go back to work.

I don't know why she quit working, maybe there was a legitimate reason, but not figuring out the budget implications for this loss in income before hand is a major mistake on your part.

My suggestion is to replace her income with something else. Either you need a part time job or she needs to bring some money back into this family.

Selling the truck in a depressed economy will result in an almost certain loss. Getting a new vehicle with poor credit in a depressed economy isn't going to happen. Banks aren't lending money to high risk individuals any more.

Instead of trying to borrow your way out of this mess, increase your income and work harder. Take control of your budget and get this done.

|||I would definitely put it up for sale. I am showing about $16,000 value, but, if you need to sell it fast, ask payoff and no more. You break even, if it sells. But, also get a hold of your bank. Explain your situation and tell them you're having trouble. If you have made good payments, sometimes they will lower the interest rate or defer 1 payment to help you get back on your feet. They don't want your truck, and you don't need a repo, so communication with your bank is key.

As far as buying a different vehicle, be more conservative this time. There are companies that will 'help you' in financing your next vehicle. They are stupid expensive interest rates, so be as frugal as you can, so you can pay off your new loan sooner. Your next vehicle, if purchased on your own with poor credit, will have to be paid off in full. The interest alone will make the deal bad for early trade-in. I wouldn't recommend you purchasing a new vehicle. Getting new debt is the worst way to get out of debt.

A refinance option would be a good possibility, if you can get it done...

Your co-signer doesn't have to live in the same state as you. They do need to live in the United States, but that's it.

I hope this helps!|||Well.... you could try refinancing.... but if you credit is bad it may not help if the loan was got with your parent's credit..... Dont go by kelly bluebook. Dealerships dont because their prices are always a little higher. Try going to nada.com or edmunds.com. they have a closer true market value. because you owe so much on it i dont think trading it in will help you. they would probably take a 10 thousand dollar trade in value it, maybe 11, which will still leave you with money owed and then that left over balance will be applied to whatever other vehicle you purchase.

your best bet is to try selling it for a little more than what you owe, then use the extra money for a down payment on a less expensive vehicle. try carmax. they usually give you good prices for your vehicles!|||Sell the truck and pay cash for a $2500.00 car.No more monthly payments.|||I would see if you can get it re-financed for a lower payment

Where would I get the most money for my used car?

I have a 1999 Olds Alero. It is in really great condition. Sunroof, power everything, 40,000 miles. I even have a 12 disc CD changer with sub-woofers. My friend in Miami(Miami Beach area) thinks I would get better offers there because they have many "drifters". I just was wondering if I could get more money for my car if I advertised in a city with a larger population. Would it really make that much difference over bluebook value?|||I had a 2003 Olds Alero and if it hadn't of been wrecked I could of got $8000 according to blue book. I sold it for $5500. I was going to trade it in, but as time went by I would lose money so I sold it for that. I don't know if it'll make a difference where you sell it. You can go to kelly blue book and see what it says.|||yes it can, people in differnt places poay different prices, based on average local incomes is a big factor. even new cars are sod at differnt prices per region, even when they say at dealer cost. try advertising on line, you will get calls from all over, put yor price on there or do it on e-bay and have the auction type sale, and set a minimum. JUst remember with online you have to list every pllus and minus, don't leqave a thing out, or people can and will back out of a deal, seen it with friends often, but some know how to place the adds, and have great success. Do be careful with selling in another state, yyou may end up paying sales taxes higher than where you are at, especially in a larger city area, just make sure what fes each party is responsible for, and both know what they will have to pay.. good luck

If I want to sell some items on craigslist.com, where might I find an accurate price for used goods?

I understand the elements that are taken into account when a used item is being sold, but I'm still unsure of market value? Is there a bluebook or web site that deals with this? Also, I know ebay helps you when your on their site, but I'm not using it presently.|||kbb.com is the Kelley Blue Book website. If it's not cars, try eBay and do an advanced search for sold items. noticed a big difference in my appraisals. Which one is more accurate?

Thanks.|||Neither. Use them as a quick reference only, don't take either as gospel. If you need a quick number, take the figures from both and meet them in the middle.

HOWEVER... a better way is to hop on Autotrader, cars.com, etc. and find other '91 Cherokees in your area. See what theyr'e going for and make adjustments based on mileage, condition, add-ons, etc. If you don't find '91 models in your area, broaden the search and make a judgment call based on where you live.|||KBB is always WAY off, edmunds is the better of the two and NADA is usually better than both. How to cite two sources from one sentence with ALWD manual?

I am using the ALWD manual for citing, and in one sentence that references two legal cases, I am wondering what goes in between, a semi colon or a comma of some sort?

People with bluebook experience, please feel free to chime in as well for insight.

Also, I am wondering if this practice is generally bad form, but I don't really see a better way to do it when closely comparing the facts of two or more cases in one sentence.|||What you're talking about requires a semi-colon. Check out the excerpt which references the ALWD manual (link below) regarding "string citations." Page 14.|||Legal cites are done using the form in the bluebook, right after the statement. For instance: "The United States Supreme Court has said that before and during questioning by police, a defendant has a right to an attoreny. See, Miranda v. Arizona, 384 U.S. 436 (1966)."

If multiple cases were to say the same thing, you put a comma between the cases.

If you are citing more than one case within a sentence for different reasons, you probably need 2 sentences.

Is that correct?|||Your calculations are correct. The difference between trade-in and retail values is what the dealer will give you toward the purchase of another car (trade-in) and what you can try to ask if you sell the car yourself (retail). The retail value is also what the car dealer will ask when he tries to sell the car. |||Your calculation is correct. I would suggest using the trade in value as it is usually a little lower than the retail value. Better to guess low than high.

You might ask if anyone has a "N.A.D.A. Online" account and would find out the info you need. It would be best to request the answer via email...(wouldn't want anyone to be reported for giving out a free report and get their subscription canceled.)

Or you could get one at http://www.nada.com/b2b/products/online_鈥?/a>

Or you might call some local auto/truck/utility dealers and see if they might access to this information. (Maybe an insurance agent/adjuster.)

If you try Yahoo search and enter VIN# you receive a Y! shortcut to look up vehicle history. I think it's about $20 for a single quote; unfortunately, I don't know if flatbed trailer are included or if it includes a Blue Book value. (I know I don't have all the info on this last part... What is the best way to determine the sell price for 1966 Chevy Chevelle Malibu?

My dad wants to sell his 1966 Chevy Chevelle Malibu. I looked in Edmunds, Autotrader, Kelley Bluebook and Googled but I can't seem to get a solid price range for his type of car. So the price varies from $3000 for parts/major restore to $40,000 to super tricked SS models. My dad's car is pure stock with all original parts and has been basically garaged for the last 30 years. In Massachusetts do you have to pay for excise tax on a leased car?

is there a tax break on luxury cars?

How is the excise amount determined, I understand it is $25 per $1000, but is based on the bluebook value of the car or on how much you owe?|||I asked the Assessor's office in my town of Auburn, MA about how the value is determined.

It is based on the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) when the car was new. The value is reduced for depreciation ( I think over 5 years) to a minimum amount that stays at that level.

The only tax breaks on cars that I know of are the credits for alternate fuel vehicles.

If you use your car for business and depreciate it, you are actually penalized because there is a limit to the maximum depreciation that you can claim (you depreciate less than the business % of your cost.)

I have never leased a car, but I believe that the excise tax is included in your lease payment.

Ironically, I once had 3 cars, a 2000 Chevy Malibu, a 1996 Plymouth Voyager Minivan and a 1993 Mercury Sable. Even though the Sable was the oldest, it had (and will always have) the highest excise tax of the three vehicles even though it was the oldest.

When buying a car which bluebook value is 10,000 and the bill of sale is 3,000 is it better to......?

Is it better to use a bill of sale or give it away as a gift which would be higher sales tax?

I want to give the gift this year of a car but if the taxes or higher one way vs. the other than I want give it away without some form of payment.|||Be honest. Most states, unless it's a family member, will charge you the sales tax on the blue book if you put it down for a gift or a $1 sale. Or even if it's substantially under blue book, unless there's something mechanically wrong with it.|||Depends entirely on where you are. What I suggest is going on to consumer reports and go by that price and look at a couple of other dealerships. Another thing, make sure you know exactly what you want in that car, a lot of dealerships will have the car with a number of additions they've added to jack up the price, basically, if you don't want the item in your car, you can have them remove it and that will lower the price, if they want your business, they will do it. You should also avoid additions such as the clear coating they'll offer to protect the paint, it's just a really good wax job and you'll pay an arm and a leg for it. Definitely shop around, that's what I did and I got the car for the MSRB price.|||that very expensive look at the prices here http://sratim.procash2.hop.clickbank.net鈥?/a>|||Ignore the blue book price. Check around on the internet. I checked out a car at a dealership, got the lowest price they would give me while I was still inside. I walked away saying I had to think about it. When I got home, I got on the internet, checked the dealerships website......the EXACT car that I test drove, was suddenly $5000 cheaper!!!!!!!! That was the "internet price". I called the dealership and complained. Salesman gave me a song and a dance, but the guy that does the financing called me back to apologize, offered me the car cheaper. I told him where he could put it. He agreed that it is not a good way to do business and seemed to understand that I would take my business elsewhere. Do yourself a favor, check online. If the place that you are buying the car doesn't have a website, then check out a competitors website. I am sure that you will find a price difference. GOOD LUCK!!

Resell (bluebook) value wanted to komfort travel trailer?

hi.

I have a friend who may want to sell his 1981 komfort Lite 15-L travel trailer. this is a tow trailer.

i have been searching over the internet, and asking questions, but cannot seem to find the value for this item. (either new or used). To make matters worse, the seller cannot remember how much he paid for it.

i myself am interested in the trailer, but i need to find proof of value first.

If anyone knows the value, or can give me a lead to someone who does, please respond.

Thanks in advance!|||Sir, I sell trailers for a living. The Komfort which we sell new is not going to be in the "bluebook" its too old. It is all about condition at this point. If it is in good shape it may retail for around $4,000 and sell for around $2,500. In reality is it worth $1,500 to a dealers It also comes down to expectations. Does everything work? If not can you buy replacement parts or do you have to replace the furnace. Sometimes it makes sense to buy your second trailer first and save money in the long run. If you have any questions I can be reached at rvcorral2002@yahoo.com

Is it legal going to china as tourist, then somebody assist you to have a job,and obtaining a bluebook?

I think you are inquiring as to whether you can first come here as a tourist then get a visa for work. It might help if you came here to look for a job with a tourist visa as opposed to finding a job before you came, but, once you come here and want to get a visa, you have two options, you can get an F visa and work undocumented at a company who will allow it or you can get a better job and your new company will have to sponsor you for a visa and you will have to leave the country (i.e probably go to hong kong) to get a work visa. Its easier to find a job before you come here, or come here as a student, with an F visa and do it that way.|||sorry have you any knowledge of china wages (salaries ) ??? do come and visit great palce and so are its citizens

Does mass auto registry use nada or kelly bluebook?

probably not. Every organization uses their own standards.

KBB and NADA are used as price guidelines for consumer aid, if MAR chooses to ignore them then that's what they do.

Kelley Bluebook for aftermarket cars?

Is there a place where I can bluebook my car now that it's aftermarket? I'm talkin custom paint, custom wheels, etc... if so let me know. Thanks|||blue book is pretty much a generic term, any item is only worth what some one else is willing to pay for it, you will never get what you have invested in time, money or feelings of nostalgia, if you get some willing guppy thats waving a lot of cash, you may indeed get lucky, just dont bet the farm on it

Is there such a "Book of Knowledge" that was left behind by aliens, described in Project Bluebook?

I have a copy of that book.you can email if ya want copy.|||It Depends|||yea i have 1 but it wasnt left by aliens|||Yes... and in it there are exactly 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419鈥?8214808651328230664709384460955058223172鈥? 4428810975665933446128475648233786783165鈥? 7245870066063155881748815209209628292540鈥?lines in each paragraph of the 33 chapters. No table of contents in it at all. Each page is known to have more knowledge within it than the entire Library of Congress... in fact Google claimed that they were going to work in conjunction with Al Gore to bring it to the public for dissemination. The problem so far is the translations... apparently this is the origin of the wingding fonts - and the lab agents working on it don't know if some of the markings are from KFC Hot n Spicy Chicken Wings grease or the person who brought it to them tried reading it before giving it to proper authorities... oh, and there are a couple of pages stuck together (illustrations - ya know).

Just keep believin brother!
