I want to sell my smart car to a dealership but I don't understand why their offer is about 3K less than what Kelly Bluebook value. Does anyone have any advise.|||A dealer has to make a profit. They buy your car below KBB and sell it for KBB or more.|||Yes, don't sell it to a dealer.

They low ball you so they can turn around and make a much larger profit. Either counteroffer what you know it is worth, or, sell it outright yourself. Of course they know you will have to pay sales tax on the difference and that almost makes it not worthwhile to sell it youself.|||$3000 Less than trade in value ?

Or $3000 less than retail.

KBB doesn't buy cars.

You are more than welcome to sell your car to anyone. But, don't expect KBB to make an offer.|||They have to turn around and profit off it. Just negotiate it the most you can.|||A dealer will need to make a profit. Any amount less than "Blue book" that they can buy it for is their profit. If you want top dollar for your car, find a retail customer, offer financing, do the tag/title work, and stand behind the vehicle with a warranty. Good luck.
