When buying a car which bluebook value is 10,000 and the bill of sale is 3,000 is it better to......?

Is it better to use a bill of sale or give it away as a gift which would be higher sales tax?

I want to give the gift this year of a car but if the taxes or higher one way vs. the other than I want give it away without some form of payment.|||Be honest. Most states, unless it's a family member, will charge you the sales tax on the blue book if you put it down for a gift or a $1 sale. Or even if it's substantially under blue book, unless there's something mechanically wrong with it.|||Depends entirely on where you are. Some states allow gift transfers between family members to a certain degree, usually parent to child or between siblings. Some states don't allow gifting at all and will use fair market value to set taxes.|||sell it for a dollar.
